Peter Gourdin de Saussure Correspondence. 1888.

The Peter Gourdin deSaussure Correspondence, 1888, consist of four letters regarding alleged professional misconduct by Dr. Peter Gourdin deSaussure in his position as a City Doctor for the Charleston County Health Department. The letters document two separate instances, one in which Dr. deSaussure's patient alleges that he was intoxicated and verbally abusive to patients another in which deSaussure allegedly neglected a patient who subsequently died. Each case is represented by a letter of complaint from the patient or the patient's surviving spouse and a letter of response written by Dr. deSaussure to those accusations. There is no indication in the letters of any action taken against Dr. deSaussure for his conduct. The letters are addressed to Dr. H. B. Horlbeck, City of Charleston Registrar.
